Course Description
- This short course builds a shared foundation in how people learn and how digital pedagogies and tools can be designed to support (or undermine) learning in higher education. Grounded in learning science and backward design (intended learning outcomes → evidence of learning → learning activities), it translates core principles—such as cognitive load, retrieval practice, feedback, motivation, and social learning—into practical approaches for digital learning environments.
- The course also helps undergraduate students learn more effectively by making the learning process explicit. Participants develop a clearer understanding of how attention, practice, feedback, and motivation shape learning in digital environments, so they can engage more purposefully in online activities, adopt evidence-informed study strategies, and use digital tools (including AI-enabled tools) in ways that support understanding and skill development rather than substitute for thinking.
Intended Learning Outcome (ILOs)
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
- Explain key learning science principles that underpin effective learning in digital environments (e.g., cognitive load, retrieval practice, feedback, motivation, social learning).
- Identify what effective engagement and active learning look like online (e.g., practice, interaction, feedback loops), and recognise common patterns that weaken learning (e.g., passive consumption, answer-getting).
- Justify digital tool choices by explaining the learning mechanism they enable (e.g., practice, feedback, collaboration) and the trade-offs they introduce (e.g., workload, accessibility, integrity, privacy).
Course Duration and Format
- Total duration: 6 hours
- Delivery mode: Online (synchronous)
- Schedule: 3 sessions × 2 hours each
- Platform: Zoom (primary teaching platform)
- Interactive tools: Mentimeter, a browser-based digital whiteboard for short activities, and an online quiz (MS Forms).
Eligibility
- This course is open exclusively to regular students from UAiTED member universities.
- Students from all academic disciplines are welcome.
- It is intended for undergraduate and graduate students, as well as teaching assistants (TAs), who are interested in enhancing their learning in digital environments.
How to Register
- Applicants must be enrolled in a UAiTED partner university at the time of registration.
- Complete the online registration form via the UAiTED official website no later than July 12, 2026.

Assessment / Requirements
- Participants are required to attend all sessions in full.
- Assessments will be conducted after each lecture.
- Participants must complete all required assessments.
Certificate of Completion
- Participants who meet the following criteria will receive a Certificate of Completion:
- Full attendance for all sessions
- Proper sign-in and sign-out
- Completion of all assessments
- The certificate will include:
- Total learning hours
- Assessment results
Academic Recognition (Credit Transfer)
- Participants will be provided with the Course Syllabus, and a Certificate of Completion.
- These documents may be used for credit transfer applications at their home institutions, subject to individual university policies.

- All sessions will be conducted live via Zoom. Please ensure timely attendance.
- Maximum capacity is 500 participants; registration will close once this limit is reached.
- Applicants will be selected based on the information provided during registration. Admission results will be announced on July 19, 2026.
- Certificate eligibility:
- Full attendance, along with proper QR code sign-in and sign-out, is mandatory.
- Completion of all assessments is required.
- Certificates will be issued after the conclusion of the lecture series.
