Announcing the Winners of the 2022 UAiTED Innovation Competition!

The 2022 UAiTED Innovation Competition had concluded on the 13th August 2022.

 

Students of the UAiTED member universities from Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, and Taiwan formed cross-institution and cross-regional teams to come up with innovative solutions on the themes Healthy Lives, Education, Ecosystem for Innovation, Climate Action and Sustainable Energy referencing the UN’s SDGs.

The 2022 UAiTED Innovation Competition is designed to fulfill two objectives:

  • Leverage high-tech innovation to facilitate ideas and solutions for problems related to some categories among the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) announced by the United Nations (UN).
  • Facilitate cross-regional, multicultural, and interdisciplinary global talent development.

 

In this competition, students will need to identify any potential or existing problems of the selected theme and propose solutions that include any emerging technologies and novel business models to support future commercialization.

 

More than 200 students from the 16 member universities participated in the first round of the competition. After a tough discussion by the reviewers, 8 teams make it to the final round of the competition. After one month of final improvement and collaboration with mentors, each finalist team has worked extremely hard to enhance their proposals and prepare their presentations. The final competition kicked off on Saturday, August 13th. This years final were done in hybrid mode, with participants in Taiwan joining us on-site at Sheraton Grand Hotel Taipei, and participants outside of Taiwan joining us online. 8 finalist teams gathered to showcase their greatest ideas to all audiences and reviewers, in the hopes of winning the competition awards. The following is the list of finalists:

 

This competition promised USD 5,000 for the Gold award, USD 3,500 for the Silver award, and USD 2,500 for the Bronze award. The competition this year is very tight among all finalists and all eight teams presentation are of good quality. After careful discussion among the reviewers panel, 4 awards (1 Gold, 1 Silver and 2 Bronze) were awarded to 4 teams. Today, we are excited to announce the winners of the 2022 UAiTED Innovation Competition.

 

GOLD AWARD: Team SGF

SGF designed an Intelligent Digital Rectal Exam(DRE) Device, that can improve patients’ and doctors’ willingness to accept DRE, which for early detection and treatment of rectal cancer.

SILVER AWARD: Team Envero

Envero is a packaging solution provider for e-commerce business platform, providing them with specially designed reusable packaging. Furthermore, Envero creates a circular logistics system, enhancing recollection of reusable packaging with tracking using radiofrequency identification (RFID) technology.

BRONZE AWARD: Team Nova Fascia

Nova Fascia designed a sensor-embedded, hydrogel-based smart bandage, that atopic dermatitis patients can conveniently track their triggers and symptoms, and monitor their skin pathophysiology real-time.

BRONZE AWARD: Team Tree.io

Tree.io proposed the idea of converting foodwaste to concrete through the specially designed chemical process called foodify.

Moreover, special commendation to everyone who has participated in the 2022 UAiTED Innovation Competition, demonstrating the importance of UAiTED's cross-regional collaboration and innovation, as well as advancing the goal of talent development.
